MHPLNSW Committee – May 2025

Nicole, Hugh, Paula, Gab. Apologies Jeff.
Our last committee meeting by phone conference had three main topics.

  • ORGANISING ONLINE FORUMS.
We think partnering with different mental health agencies to run online forums which feature the work on mental health peer leaders could be useful and help with the mission of MHPLNSW
    The main objectives would be:
    a. Build a supporter base
    b. Build connections with mental health organisations
    c. Provide a service for people interested in mental health
    d. Advocate for the increased use of paid Mental Health Peer Leaders
Hugh to follow up with agencies and ask if there is interest to partner with us.
  • ORGANISING FUNDRAISING DINNERS
Gab reported back on the success of a fundraising dinner that she attended recently for Hunter Asylum Seekers Support.
The event organisers cooked various dishes and brought them in to share at a local hall. 20 people attended including a refugee family who we got to meet. The event was really enjoyable and educational and raised nearly $700.
  • MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP IN THE HUNTER
Hugh will offer to volunteer to lead a support group with One Door Mental Health and mentor a new peer leader into a leadership role.
    The objectives of this are:
    a. to provide a useful service for local people
    b. build links with One Door Mental Health, local mental health services and build a community network.
    c. help mentor a new mental health peer leader
